NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5: Danny Pudi on renewal prospects, Donald Glover’s Troy, more

Danny Pudi -Danny Pudi has had a great opportunity the past fives years to play one of the most-iconic comedy characters out there in Abed Nadir … so is it possible that there could be a sixth? The “Community” renewal debate is something that all fans are familiar with right now, and we’re right in the middle of it again.

While the actor doesn’t necessarily give any confirmation at all in his new “Larry King Now” interview (see below) that the show is coming back, he claims that he is still hopeful. As a matter of fact, he claimed that when the “six seasons and a movie” cry was first created back during season 2, he didn’t think for a second that there was a way that the show would make it all the way to a sixth go-around. Now, we’re just a single renewal away.

There are some interesting milestones that could come up for “Community” if it makes it for another year:

1. The chance to tell more awesome stories, which seems obvious.

2. More episodes for syndication, but given that NBC doesn’t own the show (Sony is the studio), we don’t know if that is as much of a benefit for them as for a Universal Television show like “Parks and Recreation.”

3. Getting to the big 100th episode, which you know would be all sorts of awesome.

4. Actually calling it the “final season,” and allowing for an appropriate conclusion that you may not get at the end of season 5.

5. A chance for the movie to be made, and the prophecy fulfilled.

Pudi also talks about a number of other interesting topics in the clip below, including his family, missing Donald Glover’s Troy, some interesting stories from set, and how he runs into people all the time who say his signature lines. There’s also some talk about some of Danny’s filmmaking, and telling stories through this medium that he cannot always tell as an actor.
