‘Glee’ season 5 spoilers: Struggles for Kevin McHale’s Artie and Darren Criss’ Blaine
When some of the characters on “Glee” moved to New York City, you knew along the road that they were going to get involved in stories that are more and more “adult.” With that being said, we are still surprised with the direction that some of them are taking. In particular, one of the details from the upcoming episode “Tested” airing a week from Tuesday is probably one that we never expecting to see on the show.
As the official synopsis for the episode below teases, Artie’s going to confront something he never saw coming, while Blaine … has to deal with a phenomenon that many college students are very familiar with:
“When the boys get tested for STDs, Artie tests positive for a disease and he’s forced to tell his sexual partners. Meanwhile, Kurt and Blaine have relationship issues when Blaine puts on his ‘freshman fifteen.'”
If we were Darren Criss, we would’ve been like “whaat?!” when we saw the script for this one. Is he going to have to wear some padding? We’re sure producers didn’t make him gain weight for just this episode. With all this being said, though, we do find it nice that the producers are actually going to take a look at the body issues that guys go through in addition to girls, and this is something that was teased in a story a little earlier in season 4.
As for Artie, we feel like he’ll make it through this situation all right … mostly because the show has already experienced enough sadness as of late.

Interesting.
When guys are overweight, it’s just accepted in TV that that’s how they are. It’s not commented on, it’s not criticized, it’s just accepted. Not so for women on TV. Amber Riley gets so much criticism because of her weight, and it’s not like she’s lazy- though the writers of Glee tried to make it look that way in some episodes. She can wipe the floor with most of her fellow cast members on the dance floor.
Finally someone’s addressing the issue of men being overweight. It’s about time they took the spotlight off women for a change!
