‘Glee’ season 5, episode 14 review: Did Kurt and Blaine fall apart in New York?
Tuesday night’s new episode of “Glee” was a huge one in “New New York.” It marked the end of the show as we knew it, and also the beginning of something new and exciting: A series where characters are faced with new and more adult problems in a series where dreams can come true … if you work at them.
It did not take very long at all for us to figure out that this was the best episode of the show in a long-time, whether it be Kurt and Blaine’s real-life problems (such as Kurt and Blaine figuring out their new living arrangements), Artie struggling to conquer his fears after getting mugged in the subway, and Rachel figuring out that sometimes, being kept in a glass bubble by the “Funny Girl” crew is a very bad idea. Most of this was entertaining, and there were only a few minutes where the show lots its way.
The saddest part of the entire hour was merely having to say goodbye to Adam Lambert as Elliott “Starchild” Gilbert. It was known that his gig on the show wasn’t permanent, but the more that we got to know the character, the more we liked his genuinely chill energy. We almost wish we knew what it would take to actually make him upset.
We do understand that there really was not all that much that actually happened here in this story when it came to moving storylines forward (at least at first), but we didn’t mind. Had this been “Glee” for the past season and a half, we have a hard time thinking the ratings would be bad now.
The big story movement did happen near the end. Mercedes arrived to New York City in order to record a new album, and Blaine moved out from Kurt’s place. They are still together, but just needed some more space. Sam went with Blaine, and that should be awkward given Mercedes’ past with Sam. Grade: B+.
