‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9, episode 22 review: Did Ted stop Barney, Robin’s wedding?

How I Met Your Mother -Tonight, “How I Met Your Mother” finally gave us what so many have been looking forward to for years: The wedding of Barney and Robin.

But while it ended up happening in the end, it is fair to say that there were quite a few events that went down in the process. The irony? That given Barney’s womanizing ways, it was actually Robin who was extremely close on bailing on the ceremony, and even tried at one point to run away with Ted. She knew that Ted had found the locket rather than her fiance, and that caused a moment of panic.

This is what made this moment between the two characters so special: It showed Ted’s growth as a person. Two years ago, this Ted would have kissed Robin and left the wedding with her, regardless of what happened or what were the consequences. He told her instead to stay with Barney … and she still fled. It was actually her first meeting with The Mother who actually convinced her to change her mind.

Just when you thought that things were going to get completely emotional, Marshall gave Barney the best gift he could hope for: The end of the slap bet! He was hit up with one right before Robin walked down the aisle. Also, there really was a ringbear! Some of the guest appearances at the wedding itself included Tim Gunn, Frances Conroy, Wayne Brady, and John Lithgow. Cheers to the writers to getting so many of the big-name guest stars to show up in the audience.

In the end, this was simply just as beautiful and hopeful as you probably hoped for. We were worried at times during the Ted / Robin parts of the episode, but by the end, it feels like Barney and Robin are now set up for their future … and the only question mark now is Ted. Grade: A.
