‘The Good Wife’ season 5, episode 15: Josh Charles, a gun, and devastation

The latest -How is this for a stunner when it comes to “The Good Wife“? This has a show with a reputation of surprising people left and right, but never like this. This may be one of the biggest shockers to ever come in the middle of a TV season.

When Josh Charles originally only signed on to do four years of the show (a rarity for American TV), you could already question whether or not he really wanted to be on a series long-term. He eventually signed on for this one, but it was apparently meant to be his swan song. Tonight’s “Dramatics, Your Honor” featured his character of Will Gardner being gunned down and killed. Jeffrey Grant, who returned to the show for the story, was the one who fired the bullets in a courthouse. Will was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Here is what we know right now. According to TVLine, the decision for Charles to leave the show was entirely his own, and was written in order to accommodate that. Also, we learned through all of this that there may still be some scenes featuring Will to come. Most likely, this is a case of him filming extra scenes before his exit. We’re happy for that, mostly because what we saw during this episode is hardly  something that could be referred to as closure.

“The Good Wife” will go on, judging from the fact that it has been renewed already for a sixth season. It will just have to find a new person to stay in the role of male lead.
