Ratings: ABC’s ‘Resurrection’ still strong; rough news for ‘The Mentalist’s’ renewal hopes
Sunday night has morphed into a pretty interesting landscape to watch, mostly from the vantage point of seeing where all of these new shows, and also old shows in new timeslots fit into place. Some of what we have for you below surprises us … whereas some of it doesn’t surprise us at all.
-“Resurrection” may have lost a good chunk of its premiere audience, but scoring a 3.0 in the 18-49 demographic for its second episode is still great, and enough for it to be the top broadcast show on the night. We just hope that ABC does not adjust their plans for making this a limited series based off of its success; you need a certain level of honesty with your viewers that you are not just going to extend a series’ life once you start to see how well it is doing in the numbers.
-NBC’s attempt at original Sunday programming is not working out so well. “Believe” fell to a 1.4 after premiering with nearly twice that rating after “The Voice” this past Monday, while “Crisis,” the latest attempt to make Rachael Taylor as a leading lady happen, premiered with a subpar 1.7. This actress has in the past three years done “Charlie’s Angels,” “666 Park Avenue,” and now this … with the results staying the same.
-The success of “Resurrection” has in turn helped out both “Once Upon a Time” (2.3) as well as “Revenge” (1.7), though we also feel like a big part of that may be ABC finally making a pretty smart decision regarding how they are going to air these seasons in halves without weird breaks all over the place.
-“The Good Wife” (1.3) and “The Mentalist” (1.3) both fared pretty poorly, but the former has nothing to worry about given its renewal for a sixth season. We’ve believed for over a year that “The Mentalist” should be the show airing earlier at night, but that is not changing at this point. We also don’t feel like its future is good so long as it stays at around this number.
