‘Face Off’ season 6, episode 9 review: One bloody mess after another

You see? There are very few shows other than “Face Off” where we can use this title, and still somehow have it come off as a compliment. That is one of the many fun things about this show. The challenges can at times feel repetitive, but you are at least seeing something that is different than the majority of the other competition shows out there.

The challenge this week involved creating some of the bloodiest, nastiest surgical messes that we’ve seen on the show before … but for all of the talk about concept when it comes to the judging, this one really wasn’t so excited. We hadn’t touched on “Face Off” with a review in a while, and were really hoping that if we were going to be coming back to the show, that we would be doing so with something that was intensely creative and something that would test our imagination. Maybe that is a commentary in a way on how we feel about this particular subject matter.

Daran can celebrate the fact that he still won this challenge, and gets to persevere in the competition for at least a little while longer. Meanwhile, the sad news here goes to Corrine, who, after a great run on the show, ultimately just couldn’t get the work into an idea that was created enough for the judges.

The real truth to us about this episode is that once we saw the theme for next week (“Willy Wonka” characters who were never in any of the past installments of the film franchise) we were instantly far more invested in that than what we were here. This was just more of the same from “Face Off.” Some very cool art, but nothing that makes this a show that you absolutely have to watch moving forward. Grade: C+.
