‘The Mentalist’ season 6, episode 13 review: Did ‘Black Helicopters’ fly high?
After a long hiatus thanks to the Olympics, sports, and various awards shows, “The Mentalist” returned triumphantly to CBS Sunday night with an episode entitled “Black Helicopters” that really accomplished one thing above all else: Being a heck of a lot of fun to watch.
Were there still some serious matters to attend to when it comes to the CBI and its former members? Sure, but we also had Patrick Jane requesting a helicopter, and also Abbott unveiling that he has a secret obsession with Voltron. All very good stuff indeed. Seeing Jane go undercover in hopes of exposing a conspiracy at the center of a commune? Also fun. This is a show that CBS could really use more of at this point, given that they do not have enough shows right now that combine humor and drama in the same way as this one.
If there is one major flaw with “The Mentalist” right now, it’s that the show really needs to start getting a little bit closer to giving us something when it comes to Jane and Lisbon. We’re not saying that they need to hook up right away, but with the show’s ratings making its future unclear, you have to start giving us something … right? All the scenes involving the two together on this episode did was make us want to see them get together finally … and we know that there could be more obstacles ahead.
So aside from the CBI story (which is going to continue for a few weeks), we can’t really say that “Black Helicopters” is in the end anything that we are going to remember. While it did a good job of entertaining us, let’s just say that there’s a pretty big distinction between it and the finale of “True Detective” tonight. Grade: B-.

This episode was definitely fun but totally agree, need more Lisbon. And also agree it’s difficult to like the other lady at all at the moment. Most of her scenes have been done before with Lisbon. Or any of the cbi members when trying to deal with jane. I really hope la roache gets a miracle for some reason I really like him.
“Young Rigsby I need to search alone wait outside…….. Rigsby it’s freaky in here I don’t wanna be alone!” :)

I too love this show. It is a relief to not hear the words RJ anymore or the stupid anger from Jane. He is so much better like this. It is fun to have Rigsby and Van Pelt there and I even enjoyed having Laroche back in, until the end. I knew something bad was going to happen.

I love The Mentalist, hell I had a mentalist marathon during the hiatus, but there are some things that are a little disjointed. I like the new setting and it seems that some of the new faces are starting to come together, with the exception of Kim. I’m not loving her character only because it just seems her part is redundant. The whole not being able to control Jane and not believing him has been done before, with Lisbon. Which brings me to the next point, I need more Lisbon. I get that they will spotlight certain characters, but she is the female lead even if she’s not the boss anymore.
This last episode was okay, but I’m looking forward to Wayne and Grace visiting the FBI and the whole gang being back together. I just hope that there will be a season 7 and that CBS will wise up and give them a better time slot.
