Was ‘Saturday Night Live’ hurt in the ratings by Seth Meyers’ departure?

We’re not going to sit here and say that we really loved this weekend’s edition of “Saturday Night Live” hosted by Jim Parsons, mostly because we didn’t. What really matters for the show, though, more than our opinion is whether or not the ratings actually delivered what the NBC show has come to expect.

In the end, the best way to describe the numbers is “average.” They weren’t great by the show’s standards, and they were also not terrible. All in all, it drew a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic for this episode, which is to be fair still much better than almost anything else on the NBC schedule. As a matter of fact, “The Voice” and “The Blacklist” are really the only two primetime shows than it, even without the sketch show having Seth Meyers.

We figured that having the “Big Bang Theory” star and the return from a holiday break would do the show wonders, and the bigger question is going to come next week when you have Lena Dunham on as the host. There are many who really love the “Girls” star and treat her like the voice of this generation, and then there are many who despise her show and don’t care for much of what she has to say. This is probably one of the most polarizing hosts of the entire year, and we can’t imagine that there are going to be anything other than mixed emotions for everyone who is watching the show. We’re personally at least interested in seeing what the show comes up with for her.
