‘Mad Men’ season 7: Rich Sommer already lines up his follow-up gig on CBS
As someone who loves “Mad Men” and Rich Sommer (a.k.a. Harry Crane), we’re thrilled to see that he may not be out of work for very long at all.
So what sort of work has he now lined up for himself? Think along the lines of something completely different than one of the most serious shows on TV. Sommer has signed on to play a role in the CBS comedy pilot “Good Session,” about a couple named Joel and Lindsay who uncover all sorts of problems after going to therapy for a completely different issue. Sommer will play Seth, Joel’s friend and dedicated family man.
While much of this series from John Hamburg and Matt Miller has yet to be cast, Sommer’s presence certainly helps things along. Maybe this is also a show where some of his personal passions, like his incredible love of board games, could be utilized to give his character some more quirks. The only thing that has us worried about this show in the slightest comes via the mere notion of it being a single-camera comedy. There are not that many of those out there that traditionally find a lot of success on CBS; “The Crazy Ones” was there high-profile addition to their lineup this year, and despite getting both Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar, it is more likely to be canceled than just about any other comedy that is currently airing on their schedule.
As with all pilots, we’ll find out the fate of “Good Session” later this spring. Sommer and most other “Mad Men” actors will have completed production on the show by the time that they would need to be available for regular episodes.
