NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Clarissa Serna performs ‘Zombie’ to great acclaim

You have to give it to “The Voice” at times for really busting out the unusual song choices. How often do you hear the Cranberries’ song “Zombie” as an audition choice? The answer to that is “really not that often at all.”

Maybe that’s why Clarissa Serna gave a heck of a performance of it in the preview video from Monday night’s episode. There are some nice little vocal flips in here, and Clarissa really sold it with all of her energy and stage presence. This may be one of the few four-chair turns this season so far that is genuinely deserved.

So who do we feel is the right choice for her? Adam Levine is the most obvious choice, mostly because he’s a guy who knows and understands rock and pop music better than anyone else. He’s also got a knack for winning these sort of showdowns with four chairs. But, you also have to consider a pair of other factors:

1. Blake Shelton is probably going to try to appeal to her because she is from Texas … even though he’s more of a Oklahoma guy, and Corpus Cristi (where she is from) is not anywhere near Oklahoma at all).

2. Shakira will probably remind her of her own rock roots, and say that she as a woman can help understand the best ways to perform and connect with an audience.

3. As for why she would choose Usher … we got nothing in this case. Then again, we said the same thing about Michelle Chamuel when she was on the show.

Overall, though, Clarissa along with some of the other singers that we’ve heard to give us a little bit more in the way of hope about the rest of the season. Fingers crossed that it stays this strong.
