‘How I Met Your Mother’ series finale: Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, more wrap
Today marks the final day (tear) for “How I Met Your Mother” after an incredible nine years on the air, and for the cast, this means having to let go of something that has been an invaluable part of their lives for pretty close to a decade.
Over the past 24 hours, we have seen three of the show’s most-notable stars do their final scenes, and that is a cause to get just as emotional as we were last week, when Jason Segel finally said goodbye to his role as Marshall after so many years on the show. Two of them were kind enough to most messages online; as for the other, we’ll just give you a quote from one of the show’s executive producers instead about them.
Neil Patrick Harris, after finishing his work as Barney – “I just uttered my last word as Barney ‘Awesomepants’ Stinson today. Nine years. Man, time sure flies when you’re having fun…”
Alyson Hannigan’s message after wrapping – “I am officially wrapped from How I Met Your Mother!!! It has been a true pleasure to be a part of this family. Thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!”
Carter Bays, on Cobie Smulders’ last scene – “A round of applause for the wildly talented @CobieSmulders — a privilege to work with you these nine years. Godspeed Robin.”
Presumably, the last longtime regular on the show to wrap is Josh Radnor, and that really makes perfect sense in that the show gets to finish where they started … with the guy who plays Ted. We’ll hopefully have some sort of goodbye message about him and what he brought to the show tomorrow.
For now, just get ready for an emotional tailspin the next few weeks as we work on saying goodbye to a show that has changed part of the television landscape for good. By the last day of next month, we will be done with the series once and for all.
