Arsenio Hall’s late-night renewed for season 2 … with a Jay Leno cameo
Were we surprised at all to see “Arsenio” renewed for a second season? Hardly. It airs mostly on CW stations, and the expectations are therefore not as high as some other shows on TV. However, what we were a little bit more surprised by was who appeared on his show in order to help him celebrate: His old pal Jay Leno.
In the video below, you can see the former “Tonight Show” host make his first appearance on TV since departing NBC earlier in the month, where he delivered the news about the renewal straight to Arsenio himself. The reception to Jay in the building was largely positive, and he claimed that neither Arsenio nor anyone else in the building knew what he was about to present.
Could this be the beginning of something more to come from Jay? It’s possible. While he doesn’t believe that he will do something like “The Tonight Show” again, there are going to be plenty of suitors for him when he is able to return to TV full-time later in the year. The leading candidates have to be CNN (thanks to his relationship with Jeff Zucker) and also Fox, given that the network has certainly debated the idea of having a late-night host before. They may have at least thought about Conan O’Brien a few years back, and they have actually tried to enter the late-night space in the past … albeit with not the best results in the world.
While Leno is out, “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” is so far pulling in really great ratings for the network along with some viral moments. We’ll just have to see a month or two down the road if that lasts.
