‘House of Cards’ season 3 production delayed … for tax reasons
It’s almost ironic that for a show as involved in the world of politics as “House of Cards” is, it is something like taxes that is currently keeping the show from being further produced for the time being.
According to a variety of sources and information confirmed further by Deadline, the show is hoping to get tax credits in the state of Maryland that are similar to what they have received for season 1 and season 1, which are both well over the $10 million range. This is clearly one of the big incentives to shoot there, since this is a substantial amount of money that is saved, helping Netflix to further push this critically-acclaimed show into the black.
So what is the new “House of Cards” production date? Think along the lines of mid-June, but given that there is still an eight-month window between filming and then a likely premiere date, that should be plenty of turnaround. When you look at most cable shows these days like a “Sons of Anarchy” or a “Homeland,” they tend to start production somewhere between four and six months prior to a premiere date. “Game of Thrones” is one of the network shows with the longest production window, given that they are starting up production every year at around the time the last season came to a close.
“House of Cards” is still being viewed by Netflix viewers; while there are no formal numbers out there just yet for the series, we reported earlier today that there are likely millions who have watched at least a few episodes of the show since launching next week. Over 600,000 estimated people watched the entire season over the course of last weekend.
