‘Doctor Who’ alum Karen Gillan to star in ABC comedy pilot
Karen Gillan won over many people around the world for her take on Amy Pond in “Doctor Who,” and the actress is set now to bring her talents to a potential comedy over on ABC.
Sources confirm that the actress, who is also set to star in the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie, is set to star in “Selfie,” which is a modern comedy coming from “Suburgatory” creator Emily Kapnek that focuses on a woman who becomes a little too involved in the world of social media, and gets so much more than she bargained for. It’s not often these days that you see a comedy that actually lets you know that the internet exists, so we are interested to see that play out. Plus, it’s Karen Gillan!
The unfortunate thing here is that this show is still a long ways away from getting picked up for series, since it has to go through all of the various stages of pilot production. To go along with that, it also needs to do everything that it can in order to ensure that it stands out on a network where most of the adult comedies don’t pan out too well. We’ve already seen “Super Fun Night” suffer, and “Happy Endings” (a show that was much better quality overall) couldn’t make it past just a few short seasons that aired in a variety of different timeslots. They are giving the adult comedy format another chance with “Mixology,” which is getting a pretty fantastic opportunity to shine following “Modern Family” a little later this spring.
Now, we’ll just have to wait and see what executives think of this one.
