‘The X Factor’ UK spoilers: Is Olly Murs being courted alongside Cheryl Cole?
Are we getting set to have a very different sort of “X Factor” panel later this year? Traditionally when there have been four people on the show, the judges are typically made up of two men and two women. This keeps things even, and allows for a different array of personalities across the board.
However, the show may be considering doing something a little bit different this season, and also something that is at least similar in one way to what “The Voice” often does with three men and one woman. According to The Sun, the show is looking at hiring Olly Murs, former contestant and host of “The Xtra Factor,” to be the third male judge alongside Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh. What’s the reason for that? It could be tied to Cheryl Cole, and the pop star’s interest in not being set up for some sort of sexist “catfight” edit with another female judge:
“Simon [Cowell] wants Cheryl back more than anything and his idea is to make her the complete star of the show. She’s very tempted by his offer and looks close to saying yes. But she is concerned about everyone trying to whip up a bitch fight between her and a new female judge … There’s also a feeling Cheryl and Olly would have great chemistry. He really fancies her and she would happily play along because she’s very fond of him.”
The first thing that you have to remember here is that the British tabloids do have a tendency to get a very large percentage of their reporting wrong, so take everything here with a grain of salt. With that being said, we could see this working, given that Olly would have an interesting perspective as a former contestant, and is a ton of fun. The only real issue that we could see is that this is not the most diverse panel of all time, but “The X Factor” has never really emphasized that so much as just getting the people that they want.
