TV quick hits: Bethenny Frankel’s show canceled; news on ‘Penny Dreadful,’ Octavia Spencer

Bethenny FrankelWe’ll start this TV quick hits article with news that many a daytime soap fan probably saw coming: The end of another series after a short time on the air.

While “Bethenny” will continue for at least the end of the season, the show is not going to e returning for another go-around in the fall, meaning that it joins shows hosted by Katie Couric and so many more in getting the ax. As for the reason for all of these cancellations, the simple answer is just that there is just way too much variety out there. There only going to be so many people with the ability to survive in such a competitive market.

In a statement (per Deadline), Bethenny’s studio Telepictures had the following to say:

“We are incredibly proud of the creativity, passion and professionalism Bethenny and her staff brought to daytime each and every day and look forward to finishing out the season with more great original episodes … While we are disappointed not to be able to bring the series back for a second season, we remain convinced that she has a unique voice and that she will continue to be successful in the future.”

As for some other stories…
