‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 8, ‘Elementary’ season 3 could change nights next fall
Do we know for sure that “Elementary” season 3 and “The Big Bang Theory” season 8 are official? Not necessarily, but in the event of renewals, CBS is already mapping out plans to ensure that neither show is impacted greatly by the network’s decision to air eight weeks of “Thursday Night Football” during the early fall.
In a conference call with reporters (per Deadline) about earnings, corporation honcho Les Moonves made it clear that the plan would be to shift some shows around in order to accommodate the NFL. Both of these series would air on a different night until the games were over with, and then premiere in a new timeslot a little later on in the fall. That’s a somewhat-unusual move for TV’s highest-rated broadcast show, but it just proves yet again that the NFL is an unstoppable force that really cannot be toppled … even if Thursday games usually stink.
Now, let’s talk actual renewals. When it comes to “The Big Bang Theory,” it is really not much of a question at all as to whether or not CBS wants it back. The future of the show will be confirmed along with contracts for the majority of the cast. Everyone’s expected to get an enormous payday to continue doing the show, which has become the biggest monster out there in terms of syndication.
As for “Elementary,” we know that this show just inked a really big off-network syndication deal, and thanks to that, its renewal prospects are pretty strong, as well. It doesn’t have the ratings of “The Big Bang Theory,” but it won’t have to worry about any sort of contract situation for a long time.
Right now, we see Mondays being a good destination for “The Big Bang Theory,” but “Elementary” needs to steer clear of Monday night at all costs. It will suffer against “Castle.”
