NBC’s ‘The Voice’ update: What’s happening with winner Tessanne Chin?
Given that this is the time of the year where things tend to get a little quiet when it comes to some of your past singing-show winners, it seems to be the appropriate time to check in on what could be coming up soon with the most-recent champ from “The Voice” in Tessanne Chin.
Let’s of course start by answering what has to be the inevitable question: Is she working on a new album? The answer to that is yes. This album (her first since winning the show, but not her first overall) will be released this year, but no definitive window for it has been set yet. We expect her to spend a little more time potentially than the past winner in Danielle Bradbery, who had one of the most shocking and quick turnarounds ever in between winning the show in June, and then getting an album with new songs on it out just four months later.
As for some other important industry news when it comes to Tessanne, The Hollywood Reporter claims today that she has signed with ICM Partners, one of the most prestigious talent agencies out there. She already has the rest of her management secured, and her label is still Universal Republic, who handles most of the non-country winners of the show. (The previous two country winners in Cassadee Pope and Danielle Bradbery have migrated over to Big Machine, the country label popularized by Taylor Swift.)
The new season of “The Voice,” featuring a whole new crop of contestants trying to be the next Tessanne or Danielle, is going to be coming up very soon. For those of you looking for a specific premiere date, think along the lines of Monday, February 24. We’ve got a new teaser for the show here, and let’s just say that it involves a ton of dancing.

She is indeed working on her album. She already has a collaboration with Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, production by Jerry Wonda, Stargate, Shama “Sak Pase” Joseph, and writing by Toby Gad, Autumn Rowe, and the legendary Diane Warren. And that’s just the things we know. There could be a lot more surprises behind the scenes.
Although premature to say, it’s safe to assume she’ll be the first breakout star of The Voice.
