‘Call the Midwife’ season 3, episode 5 preview: Jessica Raine and further devastation
If you are reading this article immediately following Sunday night’s “Call the Midwife” episode, then you may still be struggle to fully grasp everything that happened. The death of (SPOILER ALERT!) one of the show’s most important characters is going to make an impact for quite a while to come.
The interesting part of the episode airing next week is seeing just where we find Jenny when the story picks up. Jessica Raine’s character left tonight in order to find some peace after the death of Alec, and figure out how best for her to move forward. This is most likely going to be something that she struggles for quite a while as she hopes to figure out her next move.
While Jenny is off, life for the other characters is going to continue. There is a story in particular involving adults with disabilities that has already gotten a ton of play in the British press, and it will be interesting to see what the reaction is to them on the show.
Will there be a happy ending for her still? The tone of this show still does make us want to believe that there is hope for something good happening at the end of the day. We constantly see tragedy and sad drawbacks on this show time and time again, but what makes the story so interesting is the way in which many of these things are eventually balanced out with reasons to smile, and reasons to have hope. That is what we will balance out for a while as we continue to watch the rest of the season.
What do you want to see on the show moving forward? Share any and all of your thoughts below.

Jenny absolutely broke my heart; especially when she broke down saying that she hadn’t had the chance to say goodbye to Alec!! Hope she comes back to Nonnatus House!!
