Jay Leno begins last week of ‘Tonight Show’ with Jimmy Fallon, headlines, Betty White
In case you have somehow missed some of the headlines over the past several weeks (and we don’t know how that is possible), Thursday night marks the end of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” This is his last week in the job, and it’s an opportunity for him to really say goodbye to the viewers who have watched his show loyally over the years.
For those of you who were expecting some sort of craziness, though, as the show starts to set in the horizon, you were probably a little bit disappointed. The opening monologue was a series of quick-fire jokes mostly about the Super Bowl, with all of them feeling very much like what you have seen before on the show.
Things started to become a bit more interesting when we came to what was the final edition of Headlines, mostly because the staff really put forth the effort to try and track down some of the people from the past who have been joked about under the “Wedding Announcements” portion of it. It brought back a little bit of Leno’s history, and that is nice given that it’s not something that he has done that much of since the start of the series.
Then, we turn to the interviews. His chats with Jimmy Fallon and Betty White were mostly lighthearted and gracious, with the future “Tonight Show” host trying to make it clear that there is no ill will at all between him and Jay. The two exchanged pleasantries, traded a few jokes, and they at least seem to be doing much better than Jay and Conan O’Brien now are. (Hint hint: The two haven’t spoken since all of the mess went down with the show years ago.)
We are going to have more on “The Tonight Show” the rest of the week, so be on the lookout for that. Also, visit the link here if you want to get even more updates via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
