Super Bowl commercials: John Stamos, Dannon Oikos, and the ‘Full House’ reunion (Grade)

Everyone loves a good reunion, right? That was at least the philosophy that Dannon’s brand of Oikos yogurt came up with when they created their Super Bowl commercial all about John Stamos, his two “Full House” co-stars in Dave Coullier and Bob Saget, and a little bit of racy content courtesy of a drop of yogurt falling into the wrong spot. If you love the classic sitcom, and at least have a certain sense of humor, you probably loved this.

What worked – The humor. We do feel at times that being a little bit racy is good for the big game, especially when it comes to getting people excited for a product that many people are not often that stoked to see. After all, it’s yogurt. There are only so many ways in which you can get excited about something that you eat everyday because you’re trying to be healthy. There’s nothing that screams “sexy” about Greek yogurt on is own.

What didn’t – If you are a more conservative viewer, this ad probably didn’t appeal that much to you. It’s just a little bit out there, and yogurt is probably not something that really merits this big of a stretch put upon it.

Our grade: B+. Using all three “Full House” actors was a nice touch of nostalgia, and while we don’t quite think that this is going to be the biggest ad of the entire show, it was a smart move by the company to take this risk and run with it.
