‘Downton Abbey’ season 5: Hugh Bonneville unsure about show’s future
You may as well forget for a few minutes all about whether or not “Downton Abbey” season 5 will be the last, mostly because nobody really seems to have any idea. Julian Fellowes has yet to say anything of the sort, and neither has fellow executive producer Gareth Neame.
Now you can add Hugh Bonneville to the list of people who ultimately have no real clue at the moment as to whether or not we are nearing the end. Speaking at the National Television Awards this week to Radio Times, the man behind the Earl himself made it very clear that there are a billion rumors out there regarding the future of the show, and we probably should not pay that close of attention to any of them:
“I’ve heard that I’ve signed on for three years, I’ve heard that I’ve left, I’ve heard that it’s running for ten years, so you tell me. I have no idea of whether series five will be the last but I’m just going to enjoy it and hope I don’t get killed off in the first scene.”
Obviously, the series would never do that, but we do feel like Robert is on that list of untouchable people where we really cannot imagine the show going on without him. The only other two people that we would also have on that list for sure are Maggie Smith (Violet) and Michelle Dockery (Mary), mostly because these three in particular have performances that mean a lot either to the story, or to the overall base of people tuning in to watch the show. It’s hard to imagine the action without them.
The fifth season of the series is going to start up shooting soon, and will premiere in the United Kingdom, pending some sort of sudden change, this September.

They should pull the plug on it either series five or for certain six. I love the show, but I think more of the cast will bolt and the product will water down even more. The cracks are starting to show.
