‘True Detective’ episode 2 preview: How do Rust and Martin move forward?

HBO logoWhere does “True Detective” go from here? The first episode was a perfectly-paced, adventurous hour of television that introduced us to a case that seemed to span several decades, and as you are about to find out, it is going to go so much deeper than what we have even seen already.

On the home front, Martin is going to mostly going to struggle when it comes to having a personal life that collides in a pretty big way with his professional life. One of the struggles that does come with being a detective is that this is a very lonely profession. You have your partner, who you may or may not get along with, and then you have very few other people who are going to spend any time with at all.

As for the investigation itself, get ready for things to take a very creepy and unnerving twist. Possibly-underage women get mixed up in this, as do massive conspiracies, cults, and potential religious warfare. What does make this show in particular so brilliant is largely that the frame for the story gives you some of the story, but not anywhere near all of it. What you do know right now is that Rust and Martin do end up arresting someone in the original case, and it may not end up being the right person. The only other possible explanation for some of the craziness that unfolds is that maybe this is a copycat killer, and there is someone else trying to recreate some of the terrile stuff that happened in the past.
