‘Doctor Who’ video: Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman reflect on Christmas special, time together
“Doctor Who” said goodbye to Matt Smith on Christmas Day with what was one of the most emotional episodes in years. “The Time of The Doctor” forced us to say goodbye to the 11th Doctor for good, and to reflect on everything that Smith brought to the character. While you can sit around and debate whether or not he or David Tennant had a finer regeneration, the beauty to us is that somehow, the show managed to follow one of the show’s best Doctors with another one of the best, and do it in such a way that defied what any expectations were from the fans. Just remember the sort of skepticism that was there when Smith, then a virtual unknown, was hired, and then compare it to where we are today.
The video below just serves as another means of saying goodbye. In it, you can see Smith, Jenna Coleman (Clara), and his showrunner Steven Moffat all express what it was like filming this episode, and there is more than one occasion in which Smith teared up.
Our favorite moment in the entire video just for the sake of discussion alone was seeing Smith saying that he wished in the final moments almost that there was one more year for he and Jenna, since they knew that they had something very special here. Then again, this is probably the right way to feel; you want to leave knowing that you could have done more great work, rather than leaving with the feeling that you had already overstayed your welcome. It’s a similar analogy to what the final words of the 10th Doctor were, as he realized that he did not want to go right before he knew that it was happening.
