‘The X Factor’ UK: Sam Bailey officially scores Christmas #1 with Demi Lovato cover
Sam Bailey can now put it in the books: While the rest of her career may remain uncertain, the reigning champion of “The X Factor” UK can now celebrate having the #1 single in the country with “Skyscraper,” as it sold enough copies over the course of the entire week to outlast “Happy” by Pharrell Williams, and secure the coveted title that is so important during the Christmas season more so than any other time of the year, likely because this is the time when music is flying off of the shelves as a gift to others.
Sam in total sold almost 150,000 copies of the song, which is even more impressive when you consider the popular of the United Kingdom proportionally to America. She would have one of the top-selling first-week singles of the year in the United States, as well, if the same number of people made the decision to pick it up.
In a statement following the big news to OfficialCharts.com, Sam had the following to say about landing this big achievement:
“Being number one is absolutely amazing! It really is the icing on the cake and it means Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity and Together For Short Lives will benefit from the single which makes it extra special.”
Sam has already released a music video for this song, but following this, the next time that you are really going to get an opportunity to hear some more from her is going to be during the official tour for the show next year. She will also have a new album that she will finish recording later next year. That should be in stores next year, and will be the perfect addition to any holiday gift-giving season.
