‘Girls’ season 3 to hold screenings across America prior to premiere
These screenings are basically going to include a stream of the red carpet premiere featuring the stars of the show in New York City, personalized messages from star / creator / writer in Lena Dunham, and also the first two episodes of the season, which will air for everyone else not in attendance on Sunday, January 12. So in return for your trip out and your cash, you get a six-day jump on the rest of America to talk about a very good show.
Some of the cities that are participating in this event include Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, and Washington DC. San Francisco will be on a slight delay to accommodate people actually getting home from work / whatever else that they could be doing.
All in all, it’s a smart idea for the show if they can actually get the audience to come out and pay money to see something that they are going to get at home a few days later. It allows HBO to feel more and more cinematic, and to turn the launch of their show into an event. “Girls” is not some sort of TV ratings monster, but it does have devoted fans who care a lot about the show, and would follow it almost anywhere.
If you want to check out a few more seconds of the new season a little bit early, HBO included them in their latest promo for the 2014 lineup. You can see that here, and we will have even more scoop to share very soon.
