‘King of the Nerds’ season 2 trailer features new cast, Bill Nye, dinosaurs, and mayhem

Kind of the Nerds -King of the Nerds” was the sort of reality show that you should have been watching when it aired on TBS earlier this year. Not only was it incredibly entertaining, but there was some great creativity in the challenges, and something that was at the end of the day all about success rather than strategy. Basically, there are comparisons to both “The Apprentice” and “Survivor: Redemption Island” thrown in here, at least in that even if you lose one of the primary tasks on a given episode, you can still figure out a way to save yourself via the nerd-off.

Even the premise for this new season premiering on January 23 is entertaining. First of all, they seem to have “killed off” season 1 champ Celeste like this was a penultimate episode of “Game of Thrones.” Add to that the fact that this throne looks like a slightly more-comfortable Iron Throne, and you may get confused for about three seconds into watching this trailer below and think that you are watching HBO.

Also, most of the cast seems entertaining … with an emphasis on “most of.” We weren’t necessarily a big fan of the whole “People’s Nerd” fan voting, since this is still a small enough show that if you have enough followers online or some famous friends, it’s easier to sway the votes. Also, what’s with the guy impersonating a dinosaur? When it comes to seeing geeky people impersonate dinosaurs, nobody will ever be able the touch the epicness of our “Beauty and the Geek” castmate / velociraptor extraordinaire Jonathan Prater. There are no substitutes!

This show returns on Thursday, January 23, and there are promises for there to be everything from drama to comedy and everything in between. We just hope that there are some more opportunities for us to subtly prove that somehow, we are geekier than every single person who is already a part of this show. Also, Bill Nye and George Takei are going to be a part of the new season. You’re welcome, internet.

As we get closer to the start of the new season, we’ll do our part to start to dish on some of the new cast members. But for now, just be sure to share your first impression on the new season below.
