‘Supernatural’ season 9 spoilers: New hints on DJ Qualls, other guest stars
The “Supernatural” hiatus this year feels already like an especially long one, even if the January 14 return isn’t that far away compared to what we went through over the summer. Probably one of the reasons for this is simply because of what we’re going through getting over the loss of Kevin. The moment caught us completely by surprise. Given that no recurring cast member is featured in every episode, it probably wasn’t too suspicious even to those who view set activity regularly that Osric Chau wasn’t around.
But are there going to be some guest stars to fill the void? Yes and no. There’s never going to be a Kevin replacement other than Kevin himself, and while we never rule out resurrections on this show, you can’t just bring back a character the next episode. Death has to mean something, even on a show like this.
But, there is still Garth on the way! You probably knew already that DJ Qualls was on his way back, and Entertainment Weekly claims that you are going to have an opportunity to learn just where he has been in his time away. Apparently, it will be something that comes as a surprise.
Speaking of surprises, are you interested in hearing about some other surprise guest stars? Well, Garth’s not the only familiar face who will be gracing “Supernatural” in the second half of season 9, and there may be some who you do not see coming. That is part of the benefit that comes out of having eight seasons in the can; you have an enormous library of people (dead and alive) who can come back into Sam and Dean’s life.
We recently published our full take on the first half of the season, which included some praise for Jared Padalecki for effectively tackling so many characters on the show this year. Check that out at the link here, and we will of course return with more soon.

Actually, one of the writers (Robbie?) said on Twitter that the thing on IMDB was a typo – should have said Gadriel/Gadreel. Now, he could be lying to try to preserve the surprise but I don’t want to see anyone get their hearts set on it and be disappointed.
