‘Major Crimes’ season 2 spoilers: ‘Cosby Show,’ ‘Community’ alum Malcolm Jamal-Warner to guest

Big news -For all of you classic TV fans out there, this report has to bring back all sorts of lovely nostalgia. For some of the final episodes of “Major Crimes” season 2 airing on TNT this winter, we are going to have an opportunity to see the appearance of a favorite in “The Cosby Show” alum Malcolm Jamal-Warner.

The actor will be appearing in the episodes airing on December 30 and also January 6, playing the part of Lt. Chuck Cooper, a special investigator who is here to help in part keep Rusty safe. This is a nice turn to drama for the actor this year, who has been more known by and large for his comedy work. In addition to of course his work on the classic Cosby sitcom, Jamal-Warner’s credits also include a one-episode spot on “Key and Peele” and multiple episodes of “Community” as Shirley’s ex Andre.

For “Major Crimes,” you could argue that it is a pretty controversial decision to be running episodes straight in the middle of the holidays, but personally we happen to think of it as some stroke of genius. Thanks to TNT doing this, you really get an opportunity to catch the show when there aren’t many other repeats around, and it gets much more of an opportunity to dominate in the spotlight. Since shows on this network rarely draw the big headlines, we personally feel like that is the smartest decision for them to make here. (As for them airing “Leverage’s” series finale on Christmas Day itself, that is a little more questionable … but we have way more problems with the “Leverage” situation than just that.)

What do you think about this casting, and are you happy to hear about some “Cosby Show” alum besides Dule Hill at the moment doing some great stuff on TV? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below! We’ll have more on this and other TNT scoop as it becomes available.
