‘The X Factor’ UK week 8 song spoilers: Luke Friend, Tamera Foster go modern

The latest news -For the first time in several weeks, “The X Factor” UK is opening up the catalog a little, and letting some of the contestants figure out with their coaches what they actually want to perform for themselves. This means no songs that don’t suit a contestant, but it also means that if you mess up on the song choice this time around, it is much more of a gaping hole than usual.

In addition to these song choices, we are going to have our latest edition of show contestant rankings available late Friday / early Saturday morning. Just bookmark the link here to take a look.

Luke Friend, “I Will Wait” – A great song from Mumford & Sons, but at the same time, is this one that Luke is really capable of singing? A lot of the appreciation for this folk-rock group comes from the grit and passion in which the vocals are done by the band; if he can pull this off, it will probably be one of his best of the entire season.

Tamera Foster, “We Found Love” – While we understand the criticism for Tamera as of late, the theme this week should allow her to expand outward and actually allow her to perform something that she should be pretty capable of doing a pretty good job at. She’s been compared to Rihanna so many times that she may as well do one of her more popular songs.

Rough Copy, “Every Little Step / She’s Got That Vibe” – Given that this is a mash-up, we presume already that it may be one that these three have performed at gigs over the years. It’s a couple of artists in their wheelhouse in Bobby Brown and R. Kelly, and it should be pretty great.

Nicholas McDonald, “Greatest Day” – Given that Gary Barlow has been pressing Nicholas for a little more originality as of late, wouldn’t it be pretty hilarious if he was to come out and actually perform this Take That song like it was something completely new? It’d definitely be a great way to get Gary to quiet down.

Sam Bailey, “How Will I Know” – This is the song choice for Sam that we’re worried about, mostly because Whitney Houston songs have been so overdone over the past few years. With most of the weaker contestants (at least in terms of fan support) gone, this is a time when really any of the remaining singers could go home. The only one we feel pretty confident on is Nicholas based on the voting so far.
