Comedy Central greenlights substantial renewal of Chris Hardwick’s ‘@midnight’

More -Get ready to hear many more proclamations of “POINTS!” throughout the new year. In a statement today, Comedy Central has confirmed that they are renewing “@midnight,” the awesome new late-night game show that gives you an opportunity to mock pop culture while meeting some new comedians / seeing old favorites, for a pretty massive batch of episodes. How many are we talking about here? Think 40 weeks’ worth. That is ten times the original order given to the show during this test run, and the renewal comes just a matter of a day after it came to a close.

In a statement confirming the news, Hardwick himself certainly had quite a bit to celebrate:

“I don’t have adequate words to express how excited I am that we are going to be a fixture of late night in 2014. Huge thanks to the amazing teams at Funny Or Die, Serious Business, and Tom Lennon and Ben Garant. They’ve made this process one of the most rewarding and fun experiences of my life. Finally, to the fantastic folks at Comedy Central, I say, POINTS!!!”

We’ve made it no secret that we’re a big fan of the show and its zany comedy, and we’re clearly not alone. This show has routinely won its timeslot against other late-night shows in men 18-34, one of the major demographics that Comedy Central looks for. When it comes to the more general 18-49 demo that is a standard measurement across most TV, “@midnight” defeated (per THR) such stalwarts as E!’s “Chelsea Lately” and also Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live.” One of the reasons why this show works so well for the network, and should continue to, is that you get a different game every week, and while Hardwick is a very funny guy in his own right, he’s never required to go it alone. With different comics, you always get a different energy.

Does this news make you want to scream out “POINTS!” at the top of your lungs, and who do you want to see on the show next year? Share your thoughts below! “@midnight” is going to return to the air starting on Monday, January 6.
