‘Dancing with the Stars’ 17 review: Did Elizabeth Berkley, Corbin Bleu leave before Bill Engvall?
Another week on “Dancing with the Stars,” and there was yet another opportunity for the show to actually shock us yet again when it comes to its eliminations. What we have learned from the season so far is that America apparently loves Southern comedians and also former sitcom stars who have exited Scientology. What we have also learned sometimes here is that if you are a great dancer who has not been in the headlines much lately, you are in danger of going home.
What makes this elimination in particular shocking was that after weeks of staying away from her and saying that she didn’t have the fan base to go far, we were finally starting to buy into Elizabeth Berkley. Not only was she a great dancer, but she and Val Chmerkovskiy tried their best to play to some of the fans that they knew they had out there. So to see them leave at this point over Leah Remini or Bill Engvall was startling. This is proving to be yet again one of those crazy seasons where the best dancer doesn’t always win.
So who really would we qualify as the best dancer left? Probably Corbin Bleu, but with his fan base in question, we really don’t think that he is for sure a lock to win the competition, either. This to us is more just Amber Riley in the driver’s seat at this point, doing a few casual laps before parking in the winners’ circle. Bill and Leah, while nice stories, probably can’t put together the sort of performances the next couple of weeks to really pose a challenge. The same sort of thing could go for Jack Osbourne, who is somewhat inconsistent. He is probably the biggest darkhorse left, though, and if he puts together an incredible final week, he could emerge with the Mirrorball … which he will be able to wave over Kelly’s head forever since she did not end up winning one.
Do you think that the right person left tonight? Share your thoughts below! Meanwhile, click here if you want to see where Elizabeth stood for us in the latest edition of our contestant rankings.

this show is no longer a dancing completion it is a popularity contest.. It is a shame as a lot of very talented and good hard working people are dropped due to fan base instead of those deserving the trophy….

Jack keeps bringing his parents week after week, and the judges don’t have courage to rate him the way he truly deserves. In general, they (i.e. the judges) seem to score very inconsistently, supporting talentless people and sinking those with the best potential. I cannot decide at this stage whether they are preparing the grounds for the first overweight woman to win DWTS or to reward Jack for all his recent troubles (and suck up to Ozzy and Sharon). Although not the best competitor, Amber can dance; as for Jack, his win would be profanation.

Elizabeth Berkley was sacrificed for RATINGS! Everyone always tries to attempt to explain why popular dancers go home, and it’s because these “Reality” shows are big business, and that’s all there is to it. November is a Nielsen Ratings period and the more controversy, the more shocking eliminations, the more viewers. Duh.
