‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ future in question; still no decision on Donald Trump series

Donald Trump -Has “The Celebrity Apprentice” been fired after so many years? Even though we are now a full month into NBC’s fall season, there is still no word just yet as to whether or not the Donald Trump series is going to be back before the end of the May sweeps.

Speaking in a statement to TVLine, NBC’s alternative programming head Paul Telegdy tried his best today to insist that even in spite of the fact that the show has no premiere date or even a new cast, it has not been canceled, and the plan is still in place to get the show up and running in the future:

“We are on track to produce The Celebrity Apprentice as always planned, coordinating among New York City weather conditions, sponsor needs, and celebrities’ schedules.”

Traditionally, now would be the time that a new season would be filmed, but NBC is trying something a little bit different with their Sunday-night schedule in early spring. We do wonder whether or not celebrity availability is a potential reason why we are waiting around … or, should we say, getting celebrities who actually want to do it. Donald Trump made no friends for himself for his “birther” comments about President Obama, and he has increasingly been viewed negatively by those outside of his support base. Anyone who threatens to not watch the show because of that, though, is both silly and missing the point: This is not a show about such things as actually taking Trump seriously. He is a major blowhard, but one of the biggest appeals of his show by and large is that almost everyone knows already that he is a blowhard. There is no surprise that comes from him, and his performance here often borders on either silliness or self-parody.

We admit that this still is, with a good cast, one of our favorite reality shows out there. There is a strategic element to it, but more than that, we are guaranteed a few trainwrecks. Just watch the video below if you do not believe us. (How are you not entertained!?)

What do you think: Should the show return to TV, and what do you want to see moving forward? Be sure to share your thoughts below!
