Who wants to wake up with a little “Applause” after getting themselves completely stuffed with turkey? On Thanksgiving night, ABC is actually going to air something new and a little bit different for them: A holiday special featuring Lady Gaga. However, we don’t think that she is going to spend any time in this one running around in very little clothing or making any of her more “artistic” fashion statements… after all, this is airing on a family channel on a family-oriented night. Not only that, but she is being joined by her old friends The Muppets.
This special will run for 90 minutes, and be entitled Lady Gaga and the Muppets’ Holiday Spectacular. There will also be some other famous guests away from Gaga, including her friend Sir Elton John along with RuPaul and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It’s a nice little roster of famous names, and you also have Kristen Bell appearing in some sort of sketch that goes along with some of the music.
As for the tunes being performed, expect this to be some sort of mixture of holiday hits and songs off of Gaga’s recent album “Applause.” Did you really think that she would not use this as some sort of opportunity to promote her upcoming “ARTPOP” album?
Just having this special alone is a coup for Gaga. While having record sales and touring the world is one thing, networks are extremely stingy with what they give you in terms of programming; if they are willing to let you have a holiday special that runs over an hour, then they are basically telling you that you’re kind of a big deal. There are also very few other entertainers who we think could anchor such a spot, such as Michael Buble or Justin Timberlake.
Gaga’s history with the Muppets is also pretty well-documented. She once wore a dress made up almost entirely of Kermit the Frog, and also has taken Kermit to the MTV Video Music awards before as her date. All in all, it’s a little easier being green than perhaps he first realized.
