‘Dancing with the Stars’ 17 review: Did Julianne Hough hurt Mark Ballas, Christina Milian?
As we said over the weekend, this is the time during “Dancing with the Stars” where there was the potential for a pretty stunning outcome to take place. There was no “worst dancer” in the competition, and those with lower scores (including Bill Engvall) have been proven to have large fan followings.
Even with all of this, we still did not see the elimination of Christina Milian and Mark Ballas coming. They had the potential to win the whole thing! It’s really thanks to this that we do have to ask the following question: Did Julianne Hough hurt the two courtesy of her comment saying that Mark was taking the spotlight from his partner? If so, that’s totally not cool for Christina to go home because of something a judge said about her partner.
Then again, Christina was not someone with a huge fan following going into this save for people who like her music. After all, her recent reputation was the woman on “The Voice” that asked contestants annoying questions from Twitter, and it’s hard to really overcome the preconceived notion that you have at least some sort of dance background.
The weirdest thing about Christina’s exit is that she did go home tonight despite tying for the highest score, which is something that we do not see happen very often. Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff now have the night’s top score in a 28, but there was a lot of close competition at the top. Save for the two lowest-scoring dancers, everyone was within two points of each other. Bill and Emma Slater got a 24, and then Leah Remini and Tony Dovolani brought up the rear with a 22 for what was her worst dance of the season.
We may be in the minority here, but we like this show better when there are shocking exits. Christina may have deserved to be in the competition much longer than this, but isn’t it a little boring when the people you expect to leave, do so on a weekly basis?
Did you think that the voters made the wrong choice, and is there any part of you that blames Julianne’s comments last week for what went down? Click here if you want to see where we ranked the contenders going into this, and be sure to share your thoughts below.

Julianne’s comments were dead on. They were not coming off as a couple and Christina did not stand out. In ballroom dancing the women is supposed to shine… It looked like Mark actually listened to Julianne comments and that’s why they stood out this week..

I think that Christina’s personality and attitude sent her packing. She had no connection with the audience and the only time she actually didn’t just yes the judges to death was when Julianne gave her comments.

I don’t think Julianes comments had anything to do with Mark and Christina going home. It is the voting! I have been saying for years that the contestants have to have a large fan base to stay on the show. It is a popularity contest! The voting should not be 50/50, it needs to changed to 70/30, then is would be more of a dance competition.

I was so disappointed with Julianna’s comments last week. They (her and Mark) obviously have some issues between them but I would expect her as a judge and former dancer on the show to have been more professional. I cant say her comments alone caused Christina to be eliminated but they sure didnt help. I bet they wont have her back to judge any time soon!
