‘The X Factor’ UK: Hear Ella Henderson’s new song; see James Arthur’s ‘Jonathan Ross’ video
One day after we saw Lorna Simpson predictably become the first singer eliminated from “The X Factor” UK, we are hearing some new music and a new performance for a pair of artists who performed on the show last year.
Let’s start off here with Ella Henderson, otherwise known as one of the many casualties that came to us courtesy of the male-dominated season where Christopher Maloney was irrationally supported all the way to the finale. This session recording is for her new song “Five Tattoos,” and it’s a slow, moving piano ballad. It may be the second song that we’ve ever heard to emphasize tight jeans of some variety following Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” but the track itself has a certain Adele quality to it. It’s one of those songs, like Little Mix’s new single “Move,” that you don’t really get the full quality after listening to it only once. It’s going to take a few listens for you to really get to the point where you take in some of the intricacies.
As for James Arthur, meanwhile, his performance of “You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Loves You” on “The Jonathan Ross Show” Saturday night is something that should hook you right away. We have said for some time that James is probably our favorite singing-show winner ever, mostly because he has a combination of talent and artistry that is completely different than the norm. It’s still too early to tell if he can have that some sort of global success that Olly Murs and One Direction have found, but he’s worthy of the opportunity. This performance was awesome in every way, from the vocals to the overall performance quality of James and the band.
What we also found funny is that James put it out there online this weekend that he would love to be the next judge on the show with everyone leaving, but we don’t imagine that would ever happen. Why? In James’ own words, he feels like he would probably be too mean. We’re still almost predicting that the American version goes away after this season, and that Simon Cowell goes overseas to replace Gary Barlow. Then, they just hire another music veteran, bring back Nicole Scherzinger, and convince Sharon Osbourne to do another year.
