Victoria Justice to star in MTV pilot; ‘Twilight’ director attached

The latest -Victoria Justice is not staying away from cable TV for long. The actress / singer is best known as the star of “Victorious,” but not long at all after the show ended on Nickelodeon, she already has herself a brand-new (and rather impressive) gig lined up on another Viacom-owned network: MTV.

The network announced this weekend that Justice has been poised to star in “Eye Candy,” a project based on the R.L. Stine book about a reclusive hacker (Justice) who gets herself involved in quite a bit of a situation with a cyber-crime organization. It’s a very different project than what we’ve seen with Justice in the past, and that could make for quite an interesting series.

In a statement announcing the news, MTV’s President of Programming Susanne Daniels had the following to say about this casting:

“Victoria Justice is exactly someone we want to be in business with. Not only does she resonate with our audience, she has a huge fan base and is extremely talented. We are very lucky to have her.”

Of course, there is still an issue that may keep you from getting excited about the show just yet and that’s the fact that it’s still just a pilot. There’s no guarantee of anything at all coming from this, just as is the case with almost every other show that goes through the process. The only thing that may help “Eye Candy” is that MTV doesn’t really put a lot of money into creating a ton of drama pilots, so if they find out that they like enough to take this far, it’s a pretty good sign. The network also really needs a companion show to air alongside “Teen Wolf,” since they are otherwise just sticking the show out on an island. Could we start making some snide comments in here about how they should just be making time to play music videos instead? Sure, but we may as well just be honest here and say that the ship for that has clearly sailed at this point.

What do you think about the idea for this pilot, and do you think that Justice can be a capable leading lady in something that is a little bit out of her previous comfort zone? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below!
