NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Timyra-Joi, Amber Nicole face off for Christina Aguilera
There are battles on “The Voice” that come across as competitive, and then there are battles like this one. When you have a contestant like Timyra-Joi going into the Battle Rounds facing off against somebody who got almost no screen time, it’s hard to even ask the question as to who’s going to win since it just feels obvious that she will. But, then again, this show has become a little trickier to predict these days which is something that we are all thankful for.
In the video peek below from Monday night’s episode, Timyra-Joi and Amber Nicole faced off in a battle to try to get the approval of Christina Aguilera with a song in “Listen” by another woman with a huge voice: Beyonce. Both of the ladies are great, even to the point where we can’t pick a winner between the two based on vocals alone. We’re just going with Timyra-Joi based on the sole fact that we’ve seen her, and therefore know a little bit more about what she’s capable of.
But do either one of these ladies have a real shot at winning the competition? The needle points to “doubtful” right now, since for whatever reason soulful females have struggled to make it even into finales. There are just so many of them who turn up, and a ton of them are great. Last year, for example, even the great and much-hyped Judith Hill couldn’t sneak in. Thanks to the coaches and the demographics watching the show, it’s typically either an adult-contemporary or country singer who gets the love… especially if they are on Team Blake Shelton. The year Jermaine Paul won, we almost feel like Blake’s fans just all voted collectively for the last person that was left in the craziest end result we’ve seen on the show to date.
The biggest question that we have after watching this video is if and when Timyra advances (we think that she will be stolen even if she does end up losing), is she going to actually give all of us a good spelling lesson on her name?
