Even though Cobie Smulders may already have a day job as Robin on “How I Met Your Mother,” there is some good news coming out already: She is not going to be forgetting about a new TV show in the process.
Speaking to E! News, the actress confirms that she will be appearing in at least one more episode of “Agents of SHIELD” this season after her appearance in the pilot. Of course, her character of Maria Hill is popular thanks to her part in “The Avengers,” and the moment this TV project was announced, there was speculation as to whether or not she would turn up in any role.
So how about this to add to the speculation? Smulders also did not rule out becoming a series regular for the show’s second season, if of course this “SHIELD” series ends up getting renewed. Right now, the prognosis is certainly good. The show got off to the best start in years for a drama in posting a 4.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, but this was almost expected when you think about the promotional campaign and also the success of the movies. The challenge comes now in keeping them for the long haul. Even if the show maintains a certain level of quality, it’s going to be hard to eclipse the ratings that it has already done; when you look at “Revolution” or many other high-concept drama series on network TV, they often peak with the premiere. If it wants to be a dominating force on network TV, keeping the rating close to a 4 should be a goal.
