‘Sleepy Hollow’ season 1, episode 2 preview: The latest Abbie / Ichabad scene

While the concept of Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow” may be pretty cool, to us there is one major reason why the season premiere this past week really worked as something that we wanted to watch again: The chemistry between Ichabod and his cop “partner” Abbie. There have been a million times over the years where we have a cop show about a tough female cop and her goofy male partner, but Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie really play these parts with the right mixture of humor and conviction that it remains dramatic, but yet fun at the same time.

One such example is made clear in the brief sneak-peek below from tomorrow’s episode, where we learn a tiny bit about who Abbie is while pushing forward the story. Apparently, she was on her way to Quantico in order to work on becoming a profiler, and now she finds herself chasing around a “witch.” It’s somewhat silly, but she plays it off as believable. Meanwhile, Ichabod does feel like a guy who is transported through time, but not in an insufferably-cheesy way.

While “Sleepy Hollow” has to worry about not become too gloom-and-doom or Apocalyptic, they are still off to a great start. The challenge for the writers, like any other new series, is shifting the schedule to a series format. You have much more time to shoot a pilot than a regular episode, and they have to do just as much to tell a story now in a far smaller window of time. Sometimes, this can make a show suffer; however, sometimes this pace allows for teams to build up some momentum.
