‘The X Factor’ UK preview: The Nostalgics bring a touch of humor (and Louis Walsh)

Take a look -Sometimes on “The X Factor” or other singing competitions, you get a group that is just pure fun. You know that they are not going through to the next round or performing live, but they create a nice little moment that you remember through auditions that can otherwise blend together.

This is what causes us to meet the Nostalgics. They are a band of senior citizens who have decent harmonies, and while it’s clear that they are not good enough to actually be on this show regularly, it’s inspiring to think that people as old as 94 want to go stand in line and perform in front of the judges. Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh, and the rest of these people would be thrilled to be this active if they make it to this age.

There are two moments of this audition below that we find to be particularly hilarious:

1. The group’s almost diva-ish demand for their organ player to come in, which is further evidence that they are stuck in 1952.

2. Gary Barlow demanding that Louis go up and join the group, before later telling him that he really is too “gray” to be a part in it. Zing!

In the end, these people are great, and we wouldn’t mind seeing them have a little moment during the finale at the end of the year. But putting them through to the audience audition round just wouldn’t be fair to the artists that have a real shot at winning, and would not get by just on story alone.
