Ratings: ‘The X Factor’ falls again to new series low; time for Simon Cowell to worry

The latest -The bad news for “The X Factor” USA just won’t stop, as the talent show has found itself once again at a series low. With that, it is almost time for the question to be asked: Are we really at the end of the road for the singing-competition genre?

Overall, the latest edition of the talent contest drew a 1.9 in the 18-49 demographic, and barely over 6 million viewers. To put this in perspective, this show lost to a repeat of “The Big Bang Theory” (ouch), and also did not even beat the finale for “The Million Second Quiz” by more than just half a full ratings point. Remember when Simon Cowell said that anything short of 20 million viewers was going to amount to a failure for the show? Well, it’s not even getting a third of that.

It’s really not easy to pinpoint why exactly this show is doing so terribly, but the producers seem completely out of touch with what Americans are looking for these days. This is a show that should be fun, quick, and breezy, and instead it suffocates itself with drama, repetition, and the same music / sound effects over and over. There is no reason to watch this show over any other, and at this point we are starting to think the cancellation is inevitable after a three-season run. You cannot even sit here with a straight face and say that the show will improve when you consider that next week, “The Big Bang Theory” premieres with new episodes, and next month both “The Vampire Diaries” and “Once Upon a Time” will be on. The only saving grace is “Glee,” and that may suffer later this fall after the Cory Monteith tribute episode.

You can click here if you do want to see some more of the contenders this season, though if the ratings fall continues, you may not remember them at all in a few short weeks.
