ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 6: See Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion, more in questionable group photo
Ready for some “Castle” controversy? Well, this one is really all about the folks over at ABC Studios and their marketing team, and how you can have some separate promotional photos that really cover all ends of the spectrum.
When we talked about some of the individual cast photos earlier this month, we poured the praise on ABC for coming up with something that was so classy and got us excited for the new season. There was even one photo in particular that made Castle and Beckett look like they were heading off to the Academy Awards together.
Then, you pair that up with the promotional photo of the entire cast above, which is just … ugh. It’s not good. It’s cheesy, obviously-Photoshopped, and you have everyone wearing the same exact outfits (and often in the same exact positions) that they were in for their other photos.
Compare that image to the one here for season 5, which not only made more sense given the theme of the show, but also positioned characters better and gave them better lighting. There are a couple in here that are Photoshop-obvious (see Alexis), but most of them you wouldn’t think twice about. “Castle” has done so many amazing group photos over the years that it almost feels like they should have just gone with individual shots rather than releasing this photo at all.
This has ultimately been a pretty spotty year for ABC in the world of publicity photos. While they have delivered big-time with their shots for “Scandal” this year, their individual images for “Once Upon a Time” were atrocious compared to the beautiful shots the fairy-tale show did for season 2. It almost felt like there were either budget cuts here, or some people simply got lazy.
Just to drive the point home even further, “Castle” has also given us this promotional photo in the past … and it’s all kind of amazing. Obviously, you can see that there has been a slide here from the start of season 4 to where we are today, which doesn’t really match up with the quality of the show. That remains high, and we’re excited as ever for the premiere on September 23.
