TNT’s ‘Dallas’ season 3 spoilers: Meet a new series regular

After a long summer where the well for “Dallas” spoilers was pretty dry, production is getting set to start up now. Therefore, get ready to drink this one in.

According to E! News, the show is preparing to introduce a brand-new series regular character in Nicholas Trevino, who is of course no relation to Michael Trevino of “The Vampire Diaries” (thanks largely in part to Nicholas not being a real person). The character is of Latin heritage, and is charming, risk-taker when it comes to his gambling. He also travels a bit off of the beaten path, and could be handled that “lone wolf” label pretty easily.

The challenges for “Dallas” when it premieres on TNT early next year are pretty obvious. It has been given a good opportunity now to move on past the death of J.R. Ewing with some new and exciting stories, but it’s still impossible to replace someone who is an iconic star of the show and one of the most-memorable characters in TV history. Also, there is the issue of keeping the ratings, which were already low enough last year that there were no guarantees that a renewal was even going to happen. We expect this to be a make-it-or-break-it season, in that if the ratings dive yet again, the show will not get another shot given the precedent that TNT has shown as of late in canceling some of their other series (including the stellar “Southland”).
