Ratings: ‘The X Factor’ USA gains slightly on football-skewed night

The latest -We’re not going to talk much about the ratings for some shows in this article, mostly because NFL football skewed the ratings of some shows like “Rookie Blue” and “Big Brother” to make them seem higher than they actually are.

Instead, let’s talk about “The X Factor” rising slightly this week en route to scoring a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which could be adjusted up to a 2.3 later in the day. This is slightly better than Wednesday’s premiere, and at least a sign that people who watched the first episode kept on watching to see if there was more great talent. (To us, Rachel Potter is the only contender at all from this show.)

But will the show keep these ratings together for next week? This is where we’re doubtful. There will be “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” premiering on Wednesday along with the “Big Brother” finale, and we can’t see the show pulling more than a 2.0 there given this week’s performance. While it may be easy to bash the ratings, know this: These numbers are only slightly worse than the 2.5 or so that the show averaged late last year in between the performance and results shows; also, we do expect the numbers for a ton of broadcast shows to plummet when they premiere, as more and more viewers take off to either cable or decide to watch online later. This is just not a good time to be network television, as they continue to come up with tired ideas and nothing that encourages young people to watch live.

What do you think is going to happen with “The X Factor” next week? As always, be sure to share your thoughts below!
