‘Royal Pains’ season 5 finale review: Is Jeremiah gone, and was Hank fired?

What's next? -It’s been a fun summer in the Hamptons (for the most part), and thus, we say goodbye to one of our favorite guilty pleasures in “Royal Pains” for quite a few months. There were a good many plotlines that had to be resolved here in a very short amount of time, and the writers went the extra mile. Not only did we have resolution to some stories, but there was an introduction to some new ones to go along with it.

The first shocker of the night? That it feels like Jeremiah may actually be gone from the show … at least for now. While he did end up accepting Hank’s apology, he said in the process that he did not think that he could ever work for Hank again given that he was put in a difficult position thanks to him. Jeremiah did stick around thankfully, and he did so in order to continue caring for Divya and her troubled pregnancy. What came next was very interesting: Hank came up with an arrangement to allow Jeremiah to work with Divya and take over the business.

As for the Hank storyline, it ended up being pretty complicated when we realized that he could be fired from Hamptons Heritage thanks to his drug use getting in the way of his medicine. Hank was in a sense fired from Symphony, but he was allowed to continue practicing medicine in the Hamptons and allowed to bring his patients to the hospital. While we do suspect that this is going to be problematic for next season, given that Symphony may bring in their own department, it is good for now. But did Hank really stay? We mentioned that arrangement with Jeremiah earlier, and Hank is taking advantage now of the opportunity to depart with Boris as his personal physician while giving Dr. Sacani the car keys.

Finally, we turn to what is going on right now with Evan and Paige’s marriage, which was on the brink for much of the episode. She was offered a chance to head to Paris in order to work for her boss Russell in a much larger capacity, which is an honor so big that her education in art almost becomes secondary to her experience. While she did decide to stay, it was not so that Evan could live his dreams while she had nothing. They are actually (and thankfully) going to work on their marriage, which needs a fine-tuning.

Overall, this was a nice end to “Royal Pains” season 5, and one that gives us hope for the fuutre. It was fun, light, and just about what we expect from the show.
