‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6 spoilers: Charlie Hunnam’s Jax, ‘Poenitentia,’ and a new deal

Jax -Sadly, we don’t think that the “new deal” referred to in the title of this “Sons of Anarchy” season 6 episode is going to be anywhere near as successful as the one famously created by President Franklin Roosevelt.

As you may know already, the premiere episode (airing on Tuesday, September 10) is titled “Straw,” and we recently wrote about the second one entitled “One One Six.” We now have the first official details from FX about the September 24 episode, and we will start here with an exploration into the name: “Poenitentia.” What in the world is this supposed to mean? Creator Kurt Sutter has said in the past that he really pays attention to the impact of his titles, and often does at times translate them into other languages to create a little bit more of an impact. Poenitentia is Latin, and it translates to mean a change of mind, as is a regret or a feeling of contrition. Therefore, this means that someone within the SAMCRO world will have something that they wish could have been handled differently. (Gee, we wonder who would feel that way; how about everyone?)

In going back to the “new deal” referred to earlier, we are referencing the official synopsis, which teaches that Charlie Hunnam’s character is going to establish another new way for the club to improve its standing in the short and possibly love-term:

“Jax secures a new alliance for the club while Clay makes moves inside for protection. Written by Charles Murray & Kurt Sutter; directed by Guy Ferland.”

So really, both characters are making alliances in their own way, and with a similar purpose to stay alive a little bit longer. The only difference is that one is doing so as a free man, and the other is doing so within the walls of a prison, assuming of course that he is still there when this episode begins.
