NBC’s ‘Crossbones’ books ‘Twilight Saga,’ ‘Hannibal’ director for pilot episode

We'll wait and see -For whatever reason, there is something about “Crossbones” as a series that greatly intrigues us. Is it the pirates? Probably, and having John Malkovich in the lead role certainly doesn’t hurt. This is the sort of show that is either going to be a complete and utter bomb, or something that we could actually be talking about for some time. We love a good swashbuckling adventure, but to be truthful most pirate adaptations (remember “Pirate Master”?) for TV and film without Johnny Depp on board have not gone very well over the years.

Well, who knows? Maybe the following story is going to be somewhat of an ace for the show. According to Deadline, David Slade (“The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” the first episode of NBC’s “Hannibal“) has been brought on board the show in order to direct the first episode. He’s an accomplished guy who has worked in all sorts of genre fare, so there’s really no better person out there to help get this show off on the right foot.

But will all of this end up paying off with success? That is really far out of Slade’s hands, given that he could make the best pirate show ever, and nobody would turn in. This is NBC, after all, and you never quite know what you are going to get when you have a network like this. “Crossbones” is not going to be premiering on the network until next year, so there is at least one thing that we know that Slade is going to be afforded here: Time to figure this out.

Are you excited to see this “Crossbones” show play out, or do you think we should just send this idea to the plank just like another risky NBC show in “Crusoe”? As always, we want to hear some of your thoughts.
