‘Doctor Who’ season 8: Could 12th Doctor, Matt Smith’s replacement be named Sunday?
Could the moment “Doctor Who” fans have been long waiting for finally be here? For those of you anxiously awaiting a 12th Doctor announcement for some time, it’s possible that we could actually learn who is replacing Matt Smith this weekend … with the key word there being possibly.
All that has been confirmed right now is that there is an announcement coming at midnight tonight (per MSN UK) about something that Bleeding Cool claims will be a special live show on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. local time (that’s 2:00 p.m. Eastern, or 11:00 a.m. Pacific) hosted by Zoe Ball, where the 12th Doctor will be revealed. This seems to be almost sudden, given that there was not any word on this casting front at all throughout Comic-Con last week.
Then again, if this rumor turns out to be true, perhaps it is somewhat strategic on the BBC’s front. They unveiled a trailer at Comic-Con for American fans (which we’re sure will be shown during the special), but they may have wanted to ensure that their biggest announcement was saved for the country that the Doctor calls home. This is slightly earlier than the original time frame for the announcement suggested, as reports said that it could be early September before we heard the news for sure. There’s also no telling who has been selected for the role, but we predict it will be a lesser-known British actor who can grow with the show, and not necessarily an established name that may not enjoy delving into the world as much. What made Matt Smith so perfect was the amount of love and appreciation that he showed for being the character, and the love that many people gave back to him in return.
